YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR STUDY

In Spring 2005, LYSD students participated in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.  This survey’s data is one of the highest ranking reliable data collection tool as it is voluntary and anonymous.  It should be noted that only 27 percent of LYSD middle and high school students participated in the survey so the results reflect only these participant’s responses.
The 2005 Lower Yukon School District data highlights:

Percentage of students who ever felt so sad or hopeless almost every day for two weeks or more in a row that they stopped doing some usual activities during the past 12 months 29.2%
Percentage of students who seriously considered attempting suicide during the past 12 months 33.4%
Percentage of students who made a plan about how they would attempt suicide during the past 12 months 23.7%
Percentage of students who actually attempted suicide one or more times during the past 12 months 27.4%
Percentage of students whose attempted suicide during the past 12 months resulted in an injury, poisoning, or overdose that had to be treated by a doctor or nurse 3.4%
