Obstacles are those annoying things we encounter when we lose sight of our goals .

As senior students prepare to graduate from their high schools a realization is occurring: they are soon going to be on their own. They will no longer answer to a school bell or to a teacher, but to a greater power—themselves! If students have not prepared for their graduation day, it can be very alarming. If graduates have not made the decision to go to college or a trade school and made timely application for scholarships, chances are they will not be going to school in August. If a graduate has not completed all the required paperwork and received acceptance into the branch of the military they want, chances are they wont be
leaving to start their career any time soon. If a graduate has failed to contact an employer like Yukon Delta Fisheries or Coastal Villages for jobs within their corporations, chances are they will not be going anywhere soon also. Many young people make the mistake of believing that they can always get a job within their village by working at the local store or city hall. These jobs are few and employers are more likely going to give the jobs to older adults who are supporting families and need the income. We know with No Child Left Behind that schools can no longer hire people without certain education and certifications.
So what is a graduate to do? Get with it! Contact your counselor and discuss the many opportunities that are waiting for you. Don’t be lazy and wait until the end of the year. After all, no one ever plans to fail — they only fail to plan! |
