I would like to convey that it is a tremendous pleasure to be in the employ of the Lower Yukon School District. I have worked with the LYSD in other capacities since 1997 and have a very good insight into the district’s needs and requirements for school facilities.
I came to the LYSD from the Southeast Regional Resource Center based in Juneau and have been responsible for writing the CIP applications for the school district since 2001 when Pilot Station and Kotlik were the first new schools in the district to be approved for funding for many years. Since those schools were constructed, I have been fortunate to have been involved, in one fashion or another, with the construction of Hooper Bay, Scammon Bay and Nunam Iqua. The new schools at Russian Mission School, Marshall and renovation of Ignatius Beans schools are nearing completion and should be ready to receive students in the fall, 2010. With any luck the Legislature will fund the No. 1 School Construction Project in the State, at Alakanuk for FY 2011.
These are exciting times for the LYSD and their school facilities. We have made great end-roads in recent years related to maintenance for our new facilities and with continued efforts in that area our new school buildings will serve the students of the Yukon Delta for many, many years.
