Pitka's Point Community
Pitka’s Point is located near the junction of the Yukon and Andreafsky Rivers, 40 miles northwest of
Fortuna Ledge, and five miles northwest of the communities of St. Mary’s and Andreafsky on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
Yup’iks who first settled there called it “Nigikik”, a Yup’ik word meaning “to the north”. The United
States Geological Survey (USGS) first reported the settlement in 1898. It was later renamed for a trader
who settled in the village and opened a general store, which was a branch of the Northern Commercial
Company’s station at nearby Andreafsky.
