Nunam Iqua, a Yup’ik name meaning “end of the land,” was formerly established as Sheldon Point. It is located on a south fork of the Yukon River, about nine
miles south Alakanuk and 18 miles southeast of Emmonak in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

This is a relatively new Yup’ik village, as no mention of a settlement at the site is made prior to 1950 when the U.S. Census recorded 43 residents. The community
was named for a man called Sheldon, who owned and operated a saltery at the site. The village was subsequently renamed Nunam Iqua in the nineties.
Approximate population 200.
